Mangaluru: As the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) and the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC) have declared a ‘Red Alert’ due to the heavy downpour, the Dakshina Kannada district administration has declared a holiday for schools and colleges (upto PUC) on Saturday, October 26.
According to the IMD and KSNDMC, a cyclone has developed over the Arabian Sea due to low pressure, resulting in heavy rains on Saturday as well. Taking this into consideration, Dakshina Kannada district Deputy Commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh has alerted the nodal officers and other concerned officials to be ready to handle any rain-related complications.
The DC has also requested people to call the 24×7 emergency toll-free helpline number 1077 and asked the tourists and locals not to venture out into the sea.
