Mangaluru: As the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) and the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC) has declared a “Red Alert” due to heavy downpour observed from Thursday, October 24, the Dakshina Kannada district administration has declared a holiday for schools and colleges (upto PUC) on Friday, October 25.
According to reports by the IMD and KSNDMC, a cyclone has developed in the Arabian Sea due to low pressure, resulting in heavy rains. The cyclonic condition is also expected to get worse.
The district administration has alerted the nodal officers and other concerned officials to be ready to handle the situation.
For the safety of the people, the district administration has requested the people to call the 24X7 emergency helpline number 1077 (toll-free). They have also cautioned the tourists and localites not to go near the seashore.
