Mangaluru: District Congress spokesperson A C Vinayraj has challenged the move of relaxing the lockdown in Dakshina Kannada, claiming that it would cause a spike in the Covid-19 cases in the district again.
In a video message released on Monday, May 4, Vinayraj pointed out that the COVID-29 cases in the district had shot up even when the lockdown was in full force. “As the district administration has now decided to relax the lockdown between 7 am and 7 pm, the people in the district have begun to fear that the cases will definitely increase. The district administration should, therefore, reconsider the lockdown relaxation,” he said.
“Even though Udupi is a green zone, its district administration relaxed the lockdown only between 7 am and 2 pm. However, being an orange zone, why has such a hasty decision been taken?” he questioned.
Claiming that there are irregularities in the procuring of grocery kits by the district administration, Vinayraj said, “While procuring grocery kits, the district administration has given the responsibility to an agency without floating a tender. Besides that, the grocery kits were labelled as ‘Modi Kits’.” He also urged the Lokayukta to look into the issue.
