Mangaluru: Cultural and literary organisation Rangachavadi and Tulu Sahitya Academy on Wednesday, conferred the ‘Rangachavadi Honorary Award’ on singer and music director Muralidhar Kamath Konchady.

Inaugurating the event, businessman and state BJP executive committee member Gurume Suresh Shetty said that when the Tulunadu people’s culture and tradition are changing, programmes like the Rangachavadi award ceremony connect people socially and should be held more frequently. Organisations like Rangachavadi are needed for the overall development of the people.

Expressing his joy on receiving the award, Kamath said, “I am able to achieve something in life because of my family, friends and well-wishers’ support. Rangachavadi’s work to support talents should continue forever and many artistes should be inspired by their noble work.”

Speaking on the occasion, Tulu Sahitya Academy president Dayanand Kathalsar said that Rangachavadi’s work of identifying talents in Tulunadu and honouring them and increasing their responsibility is truly commendable. “Convener Jaganath Shetty Bala should be commended for his efforts. The Tulu Sahitya Academy will always support such programmes in the future,” he said.

“As the Tulu scripture has a history of 2,500 years and there are 2.5 crore Tulu speaking people in the world, we must put in efforts to get the Tulu language included in the 8th Schedule of the Indian Constitution,” he added.

The award programme was compered by Nithesh Shetty Yekkar and the vote of thanks was proposed by Tulu Sahitya Academy member Narendra Kerekadu.

Prasad Kumar Shetty of Goldfinch, entrepreneur Ramanath Shetty Baikampadi, Surathkal Bunts Association president Sudhakar Poonja, Rangachavadi convener Jaganath Shetty Bala, Yadhav Kotian Permude of Divyaroop Constructions, Santhosh Kumar Shetty of Surathkal Matha Developers Private Limited, senior theatre artiste V G Pal, and Tulu Sahitya Academy registrar Rajesh G were present.
