Mangaluru: A recent statement made by district in-charge minister Ramanath Rai attributing his electoral win to Muslim voters has not augured well with the Hindu community members.
Rai, while attending the Beary Cultural Festival organised by the Karnataka Beary Academy on December 26 had expressed his gratitude to the Muslim community members who didn’t hold his religion as a barrier and voted him to power for six times in Bantwal taluk.
“I would have been an ex-MLA had the Muslim community opted to support a candidate of their community, and thus will forever remain indebted for the faith and support they have reimposed on me,” said Rai who has often faced criticism for having a soft approach towards the minorities.Further, he added that allegations of him favoring the minorities was baseless.
The statement which has gone viral on social media however has irked members of the Hindu community who felt that the minister has not recalled their support and was only appreciative of the Muslim community.
