Mangaluru: As the number of dengue and malaria cases are shooting up, the volunteers of Ramakrishna Mission will be carrying out a campaign to educate the local residents about the diseases, from Monday, July, 22.

During the awareness campaign, the volunteers will take up door-to-door campaign and talk about cleanliness and hygiene. Social activist Suresh Shetty will be leading and guiding the team.

As per the schedule, the volunteers would visit the houses in Jeppu, Gujjarakere and Mulihithlu areas on Monday, July 21 and later they would visit other areas of the city. The intention of the Ramakrishna Mission is to prevent people from falling victim to the diseases.

Convener of the Abhiyan, Swami Ekagamyanandaji said, “volunteers of the abhiyan will create awareness among the residents and common people about Dengue, Malaria, how to keep their surroundings clean and how to prevent these diseases. Already teams of volunteers have been formed and they will visit houses and educate the common people.”

Cleanliness drive

Ramakrishna Mission’s Swacchata Abhiyan was carried out in Bikarnakatte on Sunday. The shramadan was jointly flagged off in front of the main entrance of Infant Jesus Church in Bikarnakatta by Rev Fr Wilfred Rodrigues of Infant Jesus Church and Anil Kumar, Regional Head, Epson India Ltd.

Speaking on the occasion, Wilfred Rodrigues said, “Cleanliness is our primary responsibility. Instead of waiting for the Government to do the work, we must start working towards motivating the people. Through cleanliness, diseases like Dengue and Malaria can be prevented. Each one of us should join our hands in realising the dream of a healthy society.”
