Mangaluru: The 25th cleanliness drive (fifth phase) of Ramakrishna Mission was carried out at Tannirbavi beach and surrounding areas, on Sunday, May 26.
The campaign was jointly flagged off by chief executive officer of ONGC Mangaluru Petrochemicals Limited (OMPL) S S Nayak and Youth Sports Club, Thannirbavi president Naveen Suvarna.
Speaking on the occasion, S S Nayak said, “It is every citizen’s responsibility to maintain cleanliness so as to build a clean country. If more and more people participate in this campaign, the dream of Swacch Bharath can be realised soon.”
OMPL Head (HR) Jaideep Ghosh said, “Participating in such shramadans instill in the minds of volunteers a sense of identification that this nation belongs to them. As we get everything from this nature, it becomes our duty to keep it clean. We are proud that the Abhiyan by Ramakrishna Mission is consistently working in this regard and we appreciate their efforts.”
After the inauguration, about 250 volunteers were guided by Ramakrishna Mission’s convener Ekagamyananda Swami in carrying out cleanliness work on Thannirbavi beach. Another team of volunteer under Dilraj Alva cleaned the roads leading towards Thannirbavi beach. Construction debris, garbage and heaps of sand and stones were removed using JCB and tippers. About five loads of garbage were removed from the surroundings of Thannirbavi beach.
