Puttur: Police have arrested a person named Ananthesh in connection with the mysterious death of a woman on a roadside ditch at Hannimar of Keyyur village recently. It is learnt, the arrested man is a neighbour of the deceased namely Girija Poojari (65) and had killed her with an intention of looting her jewels.
Police had earlier suspected that Girija Poojari who had deserted her husband and was staying in her brothers residence had died due to an accidental fall or due to epileptic seizures. But investigations later on revealed that she was killed for her jewellery. It is learnt, she was killed when she was on way home from the beedi branch.
As per the information available, the arrested man Ananthesh had followed Girija Poojari and had then smashed her head with a wooden club. As she collapsed, he had escaped with her chain. However, to his bad luck, the chain was not gold but artificial. Sources said Ananthesh was facing financial crisis and therefore resorted to murder.
He is expected to be produced before the court today. Further investigations are in progress.
