Mangaluru: Condemning the Central Government’s decision to implement the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), 2019 and National Register of Citizens (NRC), several leaders of the Congress party and those of several organizations staged a protest at the Town Hall on Thursday, January 2.

Addressing the gathering, former minister Ramanth Rai said, “The Central Government is trying to implement some Acts which are against the Indian Constitution. The people of the country must revolt against this without violence. All secular parties and organizations must fight against it. This will be the second freedom struggle.”

“The Congress party is being blamed for the violent protests against the CAA and NRC as well as the death of innocent youths in police firing. If the state and the Centre want the truth to prevail, then they should submit the case to the court and conduct a judicial inquiry. The violent protest in the city was a strategy by the state government,” he added.

Meanwhile, the leaders who were present in the protest, garlanded a statue of Dr B R Ambedkar installed in the Town Hall’s premises.
