Mangaluru: After nearly two and half months, the private buses- both city buses and express buses in Dakshina Kannada district will resume services from tomorrow, June 1.

All preparations have been done to start bus service from tomorrow. A total of 200 buses have been sanitised as a precautionary measure to stop spreading of covid-19.

Each bus will ply with half the capacity so as to strictly follow the social distancing norms. Meanwhile, wearing masks is mandatory to travel in the bus.

It can be noted that private and KSRTC buses stopped services after Janata Curfew was announced on March 22.

After the Janata Curfew, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had called for nation-wide lockdown and the same continued in five phases all over the country.

In the fifth phase, the government, while providing slew of relaxation has permited opening up public transport system from June 1, following which the buses will be back on the road.

Meanwhile, the private bus owners had refused to resume services demanding the government to meet their demands, which included fare hike, waiving of road tax among others.

Though the government has not fulfilled their demands, the private bus owners have decided to start service by hiking 15% of ticket price.

City Bus Owners’ Association district President Dilraj Alva informed that it was inevitable for them to hike the ticket price by about 15% as government has not fulfilled their demands.
