Mangaluru: Motherhood is all about love and care, add a session or two of Yogic exercises and both Mother and the child will have safe confinement and delivery. This is the idea behind the first ever ‘Pre Natal Yoga Session’ which has been organised in the city by a confluence of three professional organisations, Studio Fringge, Isiri Herbals and Glitz entertainment, with Yoga experts from Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Mangaluru at the training session. The week-long session will begin on April 21 and end on April 27. A daily session of 2 hours between 5.30 PM and 7.30 PM will be held at St. Aloysius Swimming Pool fitness centre.

Yoga has a set of Aasanas that helps women who are on their way to motherhood. “Exercise during pregnancy is a key component ensuring maximal health states for both mother and child. It is a combination of physical poses called asana, breathing techniques pranayama, meditation and relaxation. All these three aspects of Yoga work in sync to strengthen the body, correct the flow of energy through the body and facilitate the mothers to deliver normally and with minimum effort,” says a joint press release by the organisations.

Women who are in their first pregnancy undergo a major life change that brings physical, emotional, psychological, spiritual and physiological stress points.

Anxiety and stress resulting from the factors can have many adverse effects on the pregnancy and the developing child. Prenatal yoga helps in increasing the strength, flexibility and endurance of muscles needed for childbirth. It is basically a set of exercises that will guide the child to position itself comfortably to come into this world. As additional benefits, It decreases lower back pain, nausea, carpal tunnel syndrome symptoms, headaches and shortness of breath in the mother. Prenatal yoga classes focus on poses that create space for baby, encourage circulation to the womb and pelvic region and relive the discomforts pregnancy can bring.

It also helps in breath awareness and control and is an excellent tool for labour and delivery.

The session is designed for an active interactive meeting and bond with other pregnant women towards healthy motherhood. The session will be guided by two experts from the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Dr Ajithesha, senior faculty in Yogic Sciences in University College Mangaluru, and Chief Yoga Therapy consultant at the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan assisted by Maithri Mahaveer Post Graduate in Yogic Sciences from Mangaluru University. Another added feature is that senior Ayurveda expert Dr Ashyajyoti Rai will also give a motivational talk on the food management and role Ayurvedic medicine plays in keeping the help of the mother and child.
