Police nab two for abusing, threatening ASHA worker

Mangaluru: The Bantwal Town Police, on Friday, April 3, arrested two persons for allegedly abusing and threatening an ASHA worker for enquiring about two foreign returned persons in the Kinnibettu village of the Bantwal taluk.

The arrested accused have been identified as Marappa Poojary and Umesh, residents of Amtady. Sources from district police informed that Nithesh of Kinnibettu and Jayanth of the Kalayi village recently returned from abroad. ASHA worker Tulasi (48) of the Amtady village enquired about the two, for this reason, and asked them to follow some safety guidelines issued by the health department on Thursday.

Taking offence, Marappa Poojary and Umesh, relatives of the foreign returned, called Tulasi over the phone and allegedly abused her and threatened her with dire consequences.

A case was registered in the Bantwal Town Police Station in this regard.

Following the filing of the complaint, the accused were arrested on Friday. The duo will be produced before a court, sources added.
