Belthangady: The pressure mounted by Kalkanja villagers and right wing organisations demanding the arrest of prime accused has yielded fruit, with the police nabbing the man responsible for the crime in Kerala on February 12.
Regis, the prime accused in the case had gone absconding after the incident. Police have slapped attempt to rape and Dalit atrocity case against the accused after his arrest.
The accused was produced in the court, which remanded him to 15 days judicial custody.
Police had nabbed the other accused Jayaraj, a rickshaw driver.
Kalkanja villagers supported by the right wing organisations during protests a week ago, had threatened of intensifying the agitation, accusing the police of shielding the accused.
