Police nab five in connection with assault on person legally transporting beef

Mangaluru: The Mangaluru East Police, on Monday, June 22, arrested five persons in connection with th recent assault on a person who was transporting beef with a valid permit.

The arrested have been identified as Deekshith Kumar (19), resident of Surathkal, Raju Poojary (19), resident of Kuchigudde, Santhosh Kumar (31), a resident of Attavar, and Balachandra (28) and Rakshith (22), residents of Ullal.

According to sources in the police department, the accused had assaulted a 57-year-old man who was transporting around 200 kgs of beef in his tempo with a valid permit in the wee hours of Sunday, June 21. They also damaged his vehicle and when people started to gather at the spot, they fled the scene.

A case was registered at the Mangaluru East police station and the alert police nabbed five persons on Monday. All five accused will be produced before the Court, police sources informed.
