Mangaluru: Mangaluru South MLA D Vedavyas Kamath has been alerting the officials of Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) and asking them to remove silt from the stormwater drains and culverts. Meanwhile, he asked the public to click a photo and send it to his WhatsApp number if they find any stormwater drain or culvert not been silted out.
Dakshina Kannada district had received a heavy rainfall last year on May 29 and it experienced a flood-like situation in the city. A house had collapsed during the rain at Vyasanagar near KPT and a woman was killed in the incident. Many low lying areas were inundated and residents were forced to shift to other areas for nearly a week. Considering such bitter incidents, Vedavyas Kamath has asked the people to find silt-filled stormwater drains and culverts, click the photos of the same and send it to his WhatsApp number 7338198477 and assured of taking appropriate measures to remove silt.
Kamath also asked the public to give the exact location, address and the contact number while sending photos. The ultimate aim is to prevent artificial floods during the rainy season, he said.
