Philately exhibition ‘Karnapex’ earns postal dept Rs 10 lakh in revenue in four days

Mangaluru: The postal department earned a revenue of around Rs 10 lakhs during the four-day 12th state-level Philately exhibition ‘Karnapex’ organised for the first time in Mangaluru.

According to Chief Postmaster General, Karnataka Circle, Charles Lobo, the postal department not only spread awareness about stamps and coin collection, but also earned an income of around Rs 10 lakhs through sales of special postal covers, miniature sheets, picture postcards, collector’s guides and stamps.

He revealed this information during the valedictory of the exhibition, which was held on Tuesday, October 15.

He also said that the postal department will give a copy of the 60-page Kannada alphabet book (which includes stamps), ‘Kannada Akshara Maale’, the first of such a book by India Post on language education in the country, to each school in the state. He also informed that more books will be issued if the educational institutions require them.

Informing about the tourism development through stamps, Lobo said that through its picture postcards and stamps, the department is promoting tourism in a great way.
