Mangaluru: When some from the gathering could not get a view of Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his public meeting at Nehru Maidan here on Saturday, April 13, they chose to climb a tree there.
When Modi started his speech, he observed that some people were on top of a tree wearing saffron turban. Immediately, he asked them, whether they were safe at the tree. “If you are not safe, come down. If anything happens to you, this chowkidar would be pained”, he said. However, they preferred to be there till the end of Modi’s speech.
Though Modi’s speech was scheduled at around 4.15 PM, the people had started gathering at the Nehru Maidan by 2 PM itself. Though the audience was under the scorching sun, they did not stop screaming the name of Modi throughout the programme.
The whole ‘Nehru Maidan’ ground was saffronised with most of the Modi fans wearing the turbans of the same colour. The whole crowd screamed as if in a frenzy, when Modi started his speech. When Modi spoke of surgical strike by the Indian Air Force (AIF) and started attacking the opposition party in his speech, they repeatedly shouted slogans in his favour.
Though passes were issued to VVIPs, mediapersons and a separate entry point was set up for the venue, the people used whichever means possible to gain entry. Though the security forces attempted to check all with metal detectors, they failed to manage the crowd.
