Bantwal: The villagers of Lakshmi Palke under Maninalkur Gram Panchayat accused the Panchayat Development Officer (PDO) of neglecting the drinking water supply issue in the area and blaming his apathy and ignoring the long pending demand under the pretext of election model code of conduct, here on Saturday, March 16.

The Ambedkar Colony near the Sarapady Government High School of Ward No.4 including the Lakshmi Palke area are facing an acute water crisis, which was brought to the notice of the gram panchayat by its member Adam Kunhi, much prior.

He has blamed the PDO for granting permission to dig a borewell, inspite of having one already near the government school.

“There are about 45 houses in the vicinity and the PDO has sanctioned another without looking into the pros and cons”, said Adam Kunhi.

In a letter written to the taluk panchayat CEO, Kunhi has said, “Even though the villagers had raised this issue with the PDO and submitted a request letter to resolve it, he has given a lame reason of election model code of conduct and rejected their plea.”

He has warned of a massive protest outside the taluk panchayat office if the officials concerned failed to respond to the request letter positively within seven days.

Adam Kunhi has forwarded the same letter to the zilla panchayat CEO as well.
