Mangaluru: The fans of veteran Yakshagana Bhagavatha (Playback singer) Patla Sathish Shetty and members of the Yaksha Dhruva Patla Foundation condemned the incident where Shetty was stopped from performing in a Yakshagana programme held at the Kateel temple’s premises.

It can be recalled that the management of the Kateel Yakshagana troupe forced Patla Sathish Shetty to return from the venue when he came to give a performance on Friday night. In response to this incident, the members of the Yaksha Dhruva Patla Foundation and Shetty’s fan’s convened a meeting in the city on Saturday, November 23, and unanimously condemned the incident.

Meanwhile, Patla Sathish Shetty has clarified that he did not know that he was not given permission for him to perform until he arrived at the venue. “I was in contact with the senior Yakshagana Bhagavatha of the troupe and no one told me that I shouldn’t perform. When I was about to start singing, the troupe convener Kalladi Devi Prasad Shetty and his associates asked me not to perform and to vacate the venue. No artistes should face such humiliation in the future,” he said.

At the meeting, it was decided to give a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner of the district pertaining to the incident. As per the plan, the fans and members of the Yaksha Dhruva Patla Foundation will submit a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner on Monday, November 25.
