Mangaluru: The Gaud Saraswat Brahmin (GSB) Premier League player auction took place at the TV Raman Pai Convention Hall, Mangaluru on Sunday, August 11.
Avinash Prabhu welcomed the gathering. Mangaluru (South) MLA Vedvyas Kamath inaugurated the auction and requested the team owners to do their bit for the people affected by the floods sweeping Karnataka. The auction was compered by RJ Kiran.
Out of the 366 cricket players who were up for auction, over 272 players were recruited by the owners of 16 teams through a bidding process.
The owners of all 16 teams have donated a total of Rs 5, 18, 000. Cricketer Rakesh Kamath was the most expensive player as he was bought by the Kodial Super King for Rs 16,800.
In a first, the Kodial Sports Association conducted the auction process using state-of-the-art technology which was widely appreciated by all the team owners.
The GPL 2020 Cricket Tournament has taken the form of a big festival this time around. The festival will be held at the Adyar Sahyadri Lawn Ground, Mangaluru on February 14, 15 and 16.
In addition to cricket, the event will also feature boating activities, a kids zone, food stalls, and various other competitions.
Later, Gopalkrishna Bhatt delivered the vote of thanks.
Prominent members of the Kodial Sports Association Mangalpadi Naresh Shenoy, Naresh Prabhu, and Chetan Kamath were present.
