Sullia: As heavy rain continued to lash the Malnad and coastal regions, several houses were destroyed in a major landslide reported at Jodupalu in between the Sullia-Madikeri National Highway.

A person named Basappa (51) died after he was buried under the loose mud due to the landslide reported at Jodupalu.

In the backdrop of the continued precarious landslides along the Madikeri-Kodagu border, the district administration shifted more than 200 people to two gruel centres in Sampaje school and Aranthodu Thekila Community Hall.

Dakshina Kannada in-charge minister UT Khader, on Friday, visited the Aranthodu and Kallugundi gruel centres and consoled the victims. Deputy Commissioner Sasikanth Senthil also accompanied the minister during his visit.
