Mangaluru: The BJP Yuva Morcha claimed that the BJP had identified more than 200 fake voters in Mangaluru on May 4.
General Secretary of BJP Yuva Morcha Mangaluru South Nandan Mallya said, “The Bharatiya Janata Party in Mangaluru South Constituency has identified more than 200 fake voters possessing dual voter cards to exercise franchise in the upcoming assembly elections.”
Addressing a press meet at BJP’s election campaign office, Nandan Mallya alleged that J R Lobo had won with 12,000 votes as the Congress had registered fake voters into the voters list in 2013. “The same tactics are being used again in this assembly elections by registering the names of people studying in Mangaluru in various educational institutions in the voters’ list”, he added.
“Deena Shaji, a resident of Kerala, has two voter cards, one in Kerala bearing voter number AYB0900993 and another in Karnataka bearing number NUX5126719. This clearly shows that Deena Shaji fraudulently obtained two different voter identity cards to exercise the vote”, Mallya alleged.
He also said that the BJP had cautioned about issuing of voter id cards to the students in Mangaluru without verification or without cancelling their existing voter identity cards.
“BJP has already filed a complaint with the election returning officer in this regard. The BJP’s various wings are working together to identify fake voters. If any duplicate voters are exercising the vote, a legal action will be taken against them”, Mallya added.
“The possession of two active voter identity card is a criminal offence and the person is liable for punishment. Hence, the election commission should conduct an inquiry into the issue”, he argued.
