Mangaluru: One person was killed while over 15 persons sustained injuries after a private bus collided with a lorry at Nanthoor junction here on Thursday, December 7.
The deceased is a woman who is believed to be in her sixties.The injured have been shifted to a private hospital in Mangaluru for treatment.
A video of the accident recovered from the CCTV shows a lorry, moving towards Padil running into the city bus moving towards State Bank, at Nantoor. The impact of the collision led the lorry to ram into a car on the other side of the road here. The accident which occurred during early morning hours threw traffic out of gear here posing inconvenience to people, including students.
Notably, traffic jams have been a constant feature at the Nantooor junction, which has bus stations nearby and interconnects the NH 66 with roads moving towards Kadri Park and Padil. Several road accidents have been witnessed here recently. However the city traffic police have not been able to resolve the issue so far.
In another accident, a tractor driver was seriously injured after tractor toppled near St Lawrence church, Bondel. Locals who gathered at the spot rushed him to the hospital. It is also said that several accidents have been reported in this junction but local administration has not taken any initiative to prevent motor vehicle accidents.
