Ondu Motteya Kathe: When an egghead chose to film his haunting imperfection

Mangaluru: The debut directorial venture of Raj B Shetty “Ondu Motteya Kathe” a Kannada film has garnered huge accolades from the general public in Karnataka and overseas.

Speaking to media at a press meet organised by the Dakshina Kannada Working Journalists Association and Mangaluru Press Club, movie director Raj B Shetty said, “Success of the movie was the collective effort of the entire team and the movie has been done without compromising on quality. We are getting huge appreciation from the general public.”

On the movie and its concept, he mentioned that he had worked on the film script for two years. “Though the plan initially was to make a short film, my friends insisted that I make a feature film on the concept and thoroughly supported me in my venture. The concept of an egghead has come from my own experience-the feelings of imperfection that haunt a bald head during his late twenties,” he said.

A fan of Dr. Rajkumar he looks up to him for inspiration

Regarding the use of photographs and songs of thespian idol late Dr. Rajkumar’s movies, he said that he was a fan of the matinee idol who has also been his inspiration.

“The team, to ensure a good results, had conducted two workshops for 53 artistes. Each one acted after they were well-versed with the script and dialogues. We started the movie with a small team and a low budget . Hence we could not afford to rope in well-known and established actors for the movie. Though we were sceptical regarding the people accepting the movie, we never compromised with the perfection and quality. Now we are receiving good response from the general public.

While we had planned for 7 shows in multiplexes, the shows increased to 21. However, now there are 14 shows in multiplexes. Even in Belagavi and Shivamogga, the number of shows has increased. In Mandya and Hubbali, the move is running to a houseful audience. We have even been approached by filmmakers for remake rights in various languages like Telugu, Malayalam, Hindi, Marathi but it is up to the film producers”, Shetty said.

He also lauded producer Pawan Kumar for coming forward to release the movie under his banner.

Producer Suhan stated the budget of the movie was around Rs 1 Crore.

Film actors Shailashree, Prakash Tuminadu, Ramdas, Shreya Anchan, Dakshina Kannada Working Journalists Association President Jagannatha Shetty Bala and Press Club Secretary Shrinivas Indaje were present.

It is also learnt that the film will be screened in USA on 27 July 2017. The film has been released in Germany today.
