Mangaluru: Fake news circulated on social networking sites are becoming a huge cause of concern for authorities.

Close on the heels of an audio clipping making rounds that Mangaluru Qazi has given a clarion call to all faithful to be a part of the community prayers, Commissioner of Police, Mangaluru, Dr Harsha has clarified that it was far from being true.

A private television channel had telecast the message of the Qazi stating that the message was sent out during the lockdown period.

However, it was found that the message was sent by the Qazi way before the lockdown was enforced and it had nothing to do with the lockdown or the COVID-19 crisis.

But, making use of the volatile situation, some miscreants floated the message now to create rift.

Sensing trouble, even Dakshina Kannada district Khazi Twaka Ahmed Musliar has specifically urged all the Muslims to remain confined to their homes and not venture out, even for Namaz.

“As there is lockdown now, to arrest the spreading of COVID-19, no namaz will be held in mosques. People should perform their customary Namaz at home,” the Qazi said requesting people to not fall prey to fake news.

Commissioner of Police Dr P S Harsha informed that people should not forward that message to anybody and a case has been filed against those who have uploaded the fake message on social media.
