Mangaluru: The Mangalore University organized a seminar on ‘NEP 2020: Pragmatic Education Policy for aspirational India in association with the Akila Bharathi Vidhyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and CESC, Bengaluru. This upset the National Students Union of India (NSUI)/ They alleged favoritism to the ABVP in other events too.
Upset, they staged a protest against the university on Monday. NSUI activists led by Farooq Bayabe, state secretary of the Congress’ student wing attempted to storm the University College which was the seminar venue. The Police stopped them at the gate. They then raised slogans against the University’s Vice-Chancellor, PS Yadapadithaya.
Thereafter they were allowed up to the Seminar hall where they continued to raise slogans. Farooq later told TOI: “Aim of the protest was to oppose unbridled access that ABVP has to the university, which is the custodian of students from all sections of society and not meant to pander to a particular organization.”
