Nomination filed by various candidates in Mangaluru

Mangaluru: Several candidates filed thier nomination papers on Monday, April 23.

BJP Candidate D Vedhavyas Kamath on April 23, filed his nomination to contest from the Mangaluru South Constituency.

Kamath, after offering prayers in various temples in the city, along with his fanfare, took a procession from Kudroli Gokarnatheshwara Temple to Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) and filed his nomination with the election returning officer.

Speaking to reporters, Kamath said, “The party leaders and activists will work together and make the Bharatiya Janata Party win the constituency once again. We reach the people during our campaign and make them aware of the various developmental activities done by Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the last four years.”

If elected as MLA, Kamath says he would work to solve the drinking water problem in the city. Controlling crime and solving the traffic problems will also be his focus.

“Many wells in the city were ruined due to the poor drainage system. I will also work towards solving this issue”, he added.

To the media’s query, he said that there was no dissent within the party. Shrikar Prabhu, the independent candidate is no longer a BJP rebel as he was removed from the party long ago, he said, adding that the people from the Gowda Saraswath Brahmin (GSB) community would vote for the BJP.

BJP’s candidate Dr. Y Bharath Shetty has filed his nomination from the Mangaluru North Constituency.

Before filing his nomination, Dr. Shetty offered prayers in Kavoor Mahalingesheshwara Temple and led the procession of his supporters from Kavoor to Yeyyadi where he handed his nomination to the election returning officer at the MCC.

Speaking to reporters, Dr. Shetty said that a lot of developmental work was done when the BJP candidate won in the constituency. He also said that he would work for the development according to PM Modi’s vision of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas.”

His focus, he said would be on development of infrastructure and employment opportunity for the youth.

Sitting MLA Mohiuddin Bava arrived on a cycle to file his nomination for the Mangaluru North Constituency. He told reporters that during his tenure, the state government had sanctioned Rs 126 Crore for the full fledged market at Surathkal.

If elected, he promised that he would construct a jetty in Surathkal for the fishermen and a park resembling Kadri Park for the residents. He also said that he would construct a government hospital for the poor.

Speaking about the development of the people of his constituency, he said that he would work to provide employment opportunities for women and the youth. To achieve this, he said he would invite industries to Muncchooru.

He also expressed his desire to build a cricket stadium as he also shares the people’s love for the game.

CPI(M) candidate Sunil Kumar Bajal filed his nomination from the Mangaluru South Constituency along with his supporters and party activists.

Sunil told the media that he was contesting as the voice of the working and middle class people of the Mangaluru South Constituency as 90 percent of the people belong to the working class.

His intention to contest the election is to bring back communal harmony in the city. Development is possible only if harmony is restored, he said.

Mangaluru city is lagging behind; lacking facilities such as city and service bus stands and a proper market. There is also no development of the port (bandar), he added.

Congress candidate, State minister UT Khader and BJP candidate Sathosh Rai Boliyar on April 23, filed his nomination to contest from the Mangaluru Constituency. Independent candidate Madhan, former police officer and former BJP leader Shrikar Prabhu, filed their nominations to contest from the Mangaluru South Constituency.
