Mangaluru: Though monsoon has already entered the district and rationing of water has been lifted, the residents of Ashok Nagar have stayed parched since the past four days. Enraged over this, the residents summoned local MLA D Vedvyas Kamath to the spot and made him hear their grievances on Monday, July 8.
As Ashok Nagar is an elevated area, the residents here receive water once in two days even during the monsoon. However, they did not receive water from the past four days which irked them a lot. Though they called Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) engineers and other officials concerned, they did not get a suitable response. It is said that some officials of MCC had given them some irresponsible answers and told them to wait for another few days claiming that there were some technical problems.
Irked over this, locals contacted Mangaluru South MLA D Vedavys Kamath and asked him to visit their area to set right the problems. Vedavyas Kamath rushed to Ashok Nagar and heard their demands. The residents complained that their area had been neglected over the years and their water needs not addressed even during monsoon. When Vedavyas Kamath sought the response from MCC Executive Engineer (water supply) Linge Gowda, he informed that due to electrical fluctuations, a pump at Karavali Pump House was burnt down, which took four days to get repaired. He also informed that the problem had been rectified now and the water released.
However, the residents were not convinced by his answer and they claimed that their area witnesses water supply problems frequently. Later, MLA Vedavyas Kamath assured of taking all appropriate measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
