Mangaluru: As over 1000 fishermen from Mangaluru will take part in the scheduled protest at Udupi on Sunday, January 6, in order to mount pressure on the government to trace the missing fishermen, the fishing activities are expected to come to a standstill on Sunday.

Despite Udupi District In-charge Minister Jayamala appealing to the fishermen in Udupi on Sunday, to withdraw the scheduled protest and rasta roko on National Highway 66 at Karavali Junction, Trawl Boat Fishermen Association of Mangaluru C M Mustafa informed that over 1000 fishermen from Mangaluru will attend the protest meeting.

“As the government is not keen on taking measures to trace the missing fishermen, it is inevitable for us to stage the protest. There will not be any fishing activities in Mangaluru on Sunday, January 6 as all fishermen are extending their support to the scheduled protest”, Mustafa added.

Mustafa also informed Newskarnataka that after the incident of missing fishermen in Udupi district, the community is apprehensive about engaging in deep sea fishing fearing untoward incidents. “Hence, there is a shortage of fish and an increase in price”, he informed.
