Mangaluru: The New Mangaluru Port Trust (NMPT) achieved yet another milestone with the newly-constructed terminal for mechanised handling of coal inaugurated on Wednesday, May 22.
Port secretary (shipping) Gopal Krishna inaugurated the berth which was constructed at a cost of Rs 469.46 Crore. After the inauguration, Gopal Krishna congratulated the port and the terminal operator for adhering to the project timing and stressed on the importance of private-public sector cooperation to achieve the large objectives of the government. He also said that the initiatives of the port will further contribute towards the development of the region, for which the Ministry of Shipping stands fully committed.
With this newly constructed terminal, the port’s cargo handling capacity will enhance by nearly 6.73 Million Metric Ton Per Annum (MMTPA) and will enable NMPT to position itself as one of the cleanest ports of the country.
Port chairperson Dr. M Beena, Mangaluru Coal Terminal Pvt Ltd Chief Managing Director Muthaiah among others were present.
