Nipah reaches M’luru; two suspected to have contacted infection

Mangaluru: Nipah virus that has caused scare in Kerala has possibly spread to Mangaluru also.

Two patients with symptoms similar to the Nipah virus infection have been founfd in mangaluru said District Health Officer Dr Ramakrishna Rao at a press meet at his office on May 22.

One of the patient is from Kerala and the other is a local resident. They were being treated at a private hospital in the city. “The patient exhibited symptoms similar to a Nipah Virus infection. We are treating it as a suspect case. We can only confirm after tests results are received,” the DHO said.

The blood samples have been sent to Manipal KM Lab for testing. The patients are receiving treatment as per the symptoms, he added.
