Mangaluru: The New Mangalore Port has been declared as the cleanest port, out of the 12 major ports surveyed in the country. This award has been given under Swacch Bharath Abhiyan, for the cleanliness and greenery maintained around the port.
The survey report was prepared by the Indian Quality Board, appointed by the Ministry of Shipping of India.
The ports were judged on a total of 37 points, including cleanliness in office, management location, repair shed, residential areas and surrounding areas as stipulated by the Ministry of Shipping. The New Mangalore Port achieved all these parameters easily.
“We are feeling proud to win the award as the New Mangalore Port handles coal, iron ore, oil products, and many other goods,” said New Mangalore Port Trust President (in-Charge) Suresh Shiravadakar.
