Mangaluru: The national level inter-college fest ‘Navarang 2018’ for PU students organised by the Department of Hospitality Science and Food Nutrition Dietetics was inaugurated at the Milagres College Auditorium on Saturday, August 18. Peter Nirmal, General Manager of Hotel Taj Gateway, Mangaluru, inaugurated the fest by lighiting the lamp.
Peter Nirmal, in his address said, “Dietetics is a special subject that discovers healthy food for a healthy living. We are more concerned about our health to stay fit. We need to follow a diet in a proper manner by consuming healthy food.”
“The hospitality industry has huge options such as aviation, hotels and more and is a good carrier to persue. You need to develop core skills and competence. Grooming is the key factor in hospitality to present yourself as best impression matters. At the same time develop good oral and written communication skills specially in English language to communicate with international clients. International cultural and behaviorial knowledge also is an added benifit. Be a good team player and work round the clock and be ready for multitasking since hospitality industry demands it. Discipline is the key to sucess and so be a hardcore profesional, put your heart and soul into what you do, be sucessful,” he added.
Nine differrent competitions like photography, collage making, cooking without fire, rangoli, face painting, solo singing, art out of waste, pencil sketching and flower arrangement are being held as part of ‘Navarang 2018’ in which arround 24 colleges from in and around Mangaluru are taking part.
The principal of Milagres College, Fr. Michael Santhumayor welcomed the gathering, student coordinator Primus D’Souza delivered a vote of thanks and Elton compered the programme. Academic adviser Prof Lourdswamy, vice president of Milagres parish pastoral council Cecilia Pereira, staff convenor Denzil D Costa, staff coordinator Melwin D Souza and others were present.
Sharada P U College, Mangaluru won the over all championship, Vivekananda P U College, Puttur were the 1st runner-up and Govinda Dasa P U College, Surathkal bagged the 2nd runner-up of the competitions.
The fest came to a culmination with the Valedictory program in the afternoon. Gladys Aloysius, Principal, Padua P U College was the Chief Guest of the program. In her speech, she appreciated the efforts of the college in organizing a national level fest to showcase the creativity and talents of the students.
Melwin D’Souza, staff coordinator proposed the vote of thanks. The programme was compered by Elton Pinto and Vinitha Mendonca.
