Mangaluru: As an old bus stand located near Nanthoor circle has been demolished a month ago, passengers are now forced to wait for the buses on the road. What is irking the commuters is the fact that the old bus bay has been demolished and the authorities are taking long time to construct a new one.
A sum of Rs 50 lakh was allocated for junction development under smart city project and thus Nanthoor junction was taken up for development. As the old bus bay near Nanthoor junction was adjacent to circle, measures were taken to construct the new bus bay, little away from the junction. Hence, the old bus stand was demolished a month ago leaving commuters in fix.
Kishan Kumar of Vamanjoor says that work was stalled a few days ago and passengers are now forced to wait for the buses on the road, under the scorching sun. "If the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) fails to take up the work at the earliest, then commuters will be put to lot of inconveniences. As this road is always busy with traffic movement, disasters too can happen", he adds.
Work will be completed within a month
However, local corporator Ashok Kumar claims that the work has not been stalled and it is under progress. "As the electric poles, power supply cables, drainage and water pipelines need to be shifted prior to the construction of bus bay, it takes time. Meanwhile, we should ensure no public is disturbed while undertaking the work. Construction of new bus bay will be completed within a month", he said.
