Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada district Congress president and MLC Harish Kumar alleged that the ‘Namaste Trump’, a programme that was held in Ahmedabad in February, is the root cause for the spread of Covid-19 in India.

Speaking to reporters here on Tuesday, May 12, Harish Kumar said that neither the Tablighi event nor the Azmeer pilgrimage was the cause for the spread of coronavirus in India.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Namaste Trump’ programme is the root cause for the spread of the virus in India,” he alleged.

Urging the World Health Organization to conduct a separate probe in this regard, he said, “The media is also hiding the truth and showing other reasons for the spread of the virus. The truth should be revealed to the public.”

It can be recalled that the ‘Namaste Trump’, a rally in honour of US President Donald Trump, was held in Ahmedabad, Gujarat on February 24 at the Sardar Patel Stadium.

The event was a response to the “Howdy Modi” event that was held in Houston, Texas in September, 2019
