Mangaluru: The employees union of Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL) has urged the MRPL to give more preference to the local candidates while filling up vacant posts for workman grades.
Union president Sudhendu K told reporters that a few candidates from Karnataka were recruited at the national-level recruitment procedure done by the MRPL. There is a need to give priority to candidates from Karnataka, especially the local youth.
Sudhendu informed that industries in the neighbouring states had given priority to their local candidates and the MRPL too must do the same. Candidates from Karnataka cannot compete in other states and they do not even have preference in their own state. The Karnataka Industrial Policy 2014-17 clearly specifies the limit for recruiting the local employees, he added.
Meanwhile, he urged the local candidates to attend all recruitment camps for lower category like ‘C’ and ‘D’ in the MRPL. The elected representatives from the state and centre should support the cause, he stressed.
MRPL Employees’ Union general secretary Sai Prithwi D Salian, office-bearers Yathish, Sukhesh and Manjunath Shetty were present.
