Mangaluru: MP Nalin Kumar Kateel and Mangaluru South MLA D Vedavyas Kamath jointly disbursed essential commodities to the migrant workers in the city on Friday, April 3.
Speaking after distributing the commodities, MLA Kamath said, “After the lockdown, many migrant workers were left without work and trapped in the city. Though grocery shops are open, migrant workers are not able to purchase items. Hence, we are helping them by providing them with these essential commodities,” he said.
Kamath also asked the migrant workers to approach the district administration if they know of any families that are facing hard times because of the lockdown. “People from across the country are working in the city as construction labourers and daily wage workers. The district administration is ready to extend its helping hand towards them. Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) Commissioner Shanady Ajith Kumar Hegde, Mangaluru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) Commissioner Dinesh Kumar are striving hard in this regard,” he added.
Mayor Diwakar Pandeshwar, MCC standing committee chairman Poornima, corporators Revathi Shyamsundar, Sudheer Shetty Kannur, BJP leader Ravishankara Mijar, labour department officer Vimala and others were present.
