Mangaluru: The Dakshina Kannada District Congress Committee Spokesperson A C Vinayraj alleged that MP Nalin Kumar Kateel had misused his powers by asking the District Health Officer (DHO) to send nursing college students to the mass convention of Prime Minister Ujwala Yojana (PMUY), organised at BC Road on Friday, January 25.
Addressing the reporters at the District Congress Office, Vinayraj said,”In order to claim that the programme was successful, Nalin has asked DHO to direct the private nursing colleges to send their students to the scheduled programme. Due to this, DHO has asked the heads of nursing colleges to compulsorily send at least 50 students to the programme”, he alleged.
“If at all nursing students should attend any central government’s programme, intimation should come from the Union Ministry of Health to the state government. In such case, the state government can direct its officials concerned to ask private colleges to send students to the programme. How can an MP ask DHO to give intimation to private educational institutions to send their students to a government programme?”, he questioned.
Congress leaders Vishwas Kumar Das, Neeraj Pal, Ramananda Poojary among others were present.
