Mangaluru: MP Nalin Kumar Kateel paid visit to the central railway station and inspected isolation wards created by transforming 20 railway coaches for corona suspects, on Sunday, April 12.

The sleeper coaches have been converted into isolation wards by removing seats. Facilities like toilets, bathrooms and provision to fix medical equipment have been provided.

These coaches also have space for doctors, nurses and paramedical staff besides arrangements to fix medical equipment.

After visiting railway station and inspecting the isolation wards, Nalin said that though the entire Wenlock Hospital has been converted into dedicated corona hospital, the railway coaches too have been converted into isolation wards to combat the emergency situation.

“A total of 20 railway coaches converted into isolation wards and each coach has 16 beds. With this, 320 beds are ready in place to treat coronavirus suspects, ” he said.

He also informed that each ward has doctors, nurses and supportive staff for providing treatment for corona suspects.

” These arrangements were done as a standby to fight COVID-19 and railway department is ready to face the challenge now,” he informed.

Mangaluru South MLA D Vedavyas Kamath, Central Railway Station Chief Manager Rakesh Kumar Meena and others were present.
