Mangaluru: The 15th edition of Pingara Rajyotsava Award will be bestowed on Ignatius Orwin Noronha from Mangaluru for his invention of eco-friendly, non-chemical, Central Government recognized internationally appreciated mosquito killer machine ‘Mozziquit’.
This was announced by award committee chairman Roy Castelino at a press meet held in the city to inform about the award ceremony which will be held on 12th November 2019 at 4 PM at the Kudmul Ranga Rao Townhall, Mangaluru. Bishop of Mangalore Diocese Rev Dr Peter Paul Saldanha will be the president of the award ceremony and will honour the awardee. MLC Ivan D’Souza, Former MLA J R Lobo, Former State Kannada Sahithya Parishat President Dharmadarshi Harikrishna Punaroor, Former Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy President Roy Castelino, Chutuku Sahitya Parishad President Dr Suresh Negalaguli will be the guests of honour.
There will be literature and cultural programs by Mangaluru Taluk Chutuku Sahitya Parishad and recital of poems by 25 Kannada renowned poets after the award ceremony. Also, a poetic drama ‘Gokula Nirgamana’ will be performed by Shwetha Arehole.
The Pingara Rajyotsava Award is instituted by Pingara Weekly newspaper headed by Raymond D’Cunha and is awarded to achievers in various fields on the occasion of Kannada Rajyotsava every year in the month of November. The award committee has Former State Kannada Sahithya Parishat President Dharmadarshi Harikrishna Punaroor, Former Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy President Roy Castelino and Raymond D’Cunha as its permanent members and C G Pinto, Dr B G Suvarna and Srinivas Indaje as its members.
About Ignatius Orwin Noronha:
Ignatius Orwin Noronha is a Limca Book of Records holder for his product who has invented device which traps or attracts mosquitoes using organic food-grade proprietary additives in its casing component in combination with light, tested it and established a manufacturing unit of the mosquito-killing machine in Mangalore which was recognized by the Government of India and has granted Rs 15 Lakhs to continue his activities in larger scale. This machine is are in different sizes are already tested in various Goshalas, public places and houses and have given best results.
This device has been validated by the Karnataka Veterinary, Animal and Fisheries Sciences University through research and practicals and the National Institute of Malaria Research has certified that the device can reduce the total mosquito population and the diseases transmitted by them. Orwin also obtained a patent for the device and has registered 12 models of the MozziQuit but only three of these models are available in the market.
Awards
For his invention of the ‘MozziQuit’, Orwin Noronha has won the Millennium Alliance Round 4 Awards with a Rs 15 Lakh grant on 20 July 2017 in New Delhi. This award was conferred on him by Dr Harshvardhan, Union Minister of Ministry of Science & Technology.
‘MozziQuit’ also won the prestigious Gold Medal Award at the DST- Lockheed Martin India Innovation Competition on 20 May 2010 evaluated by the University of Austin Texas.
‘MozziQuit’ was also selected as a Medical Device Made for the Prevention of Diseases and was displayed at the Festival of Innovations in 2016 at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on 16 March 2016 organised jointly by the Indian Council of Medical Research and National Innovation Foundation.
MozziQuit also won the ISA Best Electronic Product of the year 2010, under the Healthcare Category, the Spandana Innovation Business Award in 2016 and Small Entrepreneurship Startup Business Award in 2016.
