Mangaluru: Former MLA Ramanath Rai from Congress told the reporters during a press meet here on Wednesday June 16 that the government has failed to tackle the pandemic and people are seen suffering as a result. “During these difficult times, the price of petrol has increased 19 times. In addition, the price of electricity has been raised by 30 paise per unit for no reason,” he stressed.

He further said that, “We don’t have any electricity shortage because we generate up to 30,000 megawatts. When Narendra Modi was in opposition and the price of gas was Rs 70, he promised that if he won, he would lower costs to make life simpler for the common man.”

Rai said that the State Government functions like a business entity and they are not worried about people’s problems. “The electricity supply company was doing well during the UPA government’s tenure. However, they are now running under loss. It is due to the government’s inefficiency and corruption, which is out to satisfy corporate interests. We urge that the unscientific electricity price increase be revoked, the issue be discussed with the opposition, and then additional action should be taken,” said Ramanath Rai.

Former MLA J R Lobo, district Congress President Harish Kumar, Congress leaders Shashidhar Hegde, Lawrence, Bhaskar Moily, Appi, Sahul Hameed and others were present.
