Modi’s visit to city: Security beefed up

Mangaluru: Tight security arrangements have been made in city today ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Mangaluru on Saturday, April 13,

The security has been reviewed and coordination between intelligence agencies and security forces sought. A team of Special Protection Group (SPG) has already arrived in the city and held a meeting with the senior police officials to review the security arrangements. The SPG sleuths also inspected the rally venue on Friday, April 12 evening.

On its part, the district administration also has made the necessary preparations after rounds of high-level meetings. According to sources in the police department, the state police and other law enforcing wings have already intensified the security shield around the city.

A total of 5 SPs/DCPs, 10 DySps/ACPs, 36 inspectors, 67 PSIs, 147 ASIs, 1207 head constables/constables, 92 Home Guards, 5 KSRP platoons, 2 CRPF platoons were deployed at the key points.

The roads leading to the venue have been barricaded by the police. Sniffer dogs have been pressed into service at the venue. The subdivisional level officers were also directed to keep a close watch over the area of their operation and rapidly address sensitive issues if any.

Traffic on all the major roads have been diverted towards alternative roads during Modi’s visit here. Parking arrangements have been made for vehicles at designated spots like Karavali Utsav ground, Urwa Market, Ladyhill Church, Kuloor Gold Finch City Maidan.

The buses which come from Ullal, Konaje, Deralakatte, Uppala, Kasargod and Thokkottu have to go via Pumpwell, Kankanady and drop the passengers at Mangaladevi temple.

Buses from Karkala, Moodbidri, Sullia, Puttur, Beltangady, Bantwal, B C Road should stop at Ambedkar Circle and passengers should get down there between 3 PM and 6 PM.

Those buses which come from Udupi, Suratkal, Kateel, Bajpe, Kavoor, Kuloor, Kottara Chowki should stop at Navabharath Circle and passengers should alight there.

Modi will be addressing a public meeting at Nehru Maidan as part of his campaign tour for the Lok Sabha elections after 4 PM.
