Mangaluru: Referring to the mammoth gathering at the recently-held protest against Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA), National Register of Citizens (NRC) and National Population Register (NPR) in the city, the Muslim Central Committee informed that it reflects the people’s opinion against the law and further urged the Union Government to withdraw its decision of implementing CAA, NRC and NPR.

Muslim Central Committee Chairman Mohammed Masood told reporters here on Saturday, January 18, that though the committee had expected around one lakh people at the protest, over three lakh people ended up attending the event. “The Government should consider it as a reflection of people’s opinion against CAA, NRC and NPR. Instead of implementing these anti-people programmes, the government should focus on those programmes which really help the welfare of the people,” he said.

Masood stressed that the Muslim Central Committee will not keep quiet even after organising such a huge protest meeting. “Our fight against these Acts will continue in the future as well. As the issue is listed in the Supreme Court, we will wait for the verdict to be delivered. The future course of action will be decided after the court’s order,” he said.

Meanwhile, Masood thanked everyone for their cooperation towards the success of the protest meeting. “The committee is looking forward to similar cooperation by the public in all our future activities,” he said.

Muslim Central Committee Vice Presidents Kodijal Ibrahim and B M Mumtaz Ali, General Secretary Mohammed Haneef, coordinators S M Rasheed, Khasim Ahmed H K, and Mansoor Ahmed Azad were present.
