Mangaluru: As a mark of respect for medical fraternity, Mangaluru City Police oranised a unique event- “honour convoy” at the Wenlock Covid-19 Block, on Wednesday, April 22.
As medical fraternity including doctors, nurses, paramedics, ambulance driver, lab technicians among others are working hard day and night to rescue the patients of covid-19 and to stop spreading of the disease, Mangaluru City Police thought it was important to let the medical fraternity know that they are ‘super heroes’, whose bravery needs to be appreciated.
Such a programme has been held for the first time in India and the intention of the programme was to let general public know about the selfless service the medical fraternity and frontline health workers are doing and how they should be respected.
The event becomes all the more important at a juncture of time when attacks and assaults on health workers is on the rise in the country.
The police patrolling vehicles went round the city as a token of respect to the health workers. Later, police department and district administration staff, clapped for the medical fraternity, paying sincere gratitude to them for their valuable service.
Commissioner of Police Dr P S Harsha while thanking the medical fraternity said it was the duty of all public to respect health workers. “Due to their sincere work we are safe now,” he said.
Dakshina Kannada district Superintendent of Police Dr B M Lakshmi Prasad, Deputy Commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh, ZP CEO Selvamani R, MCC Commissioner Shanady Ajith Kumar Hegde and others were present.
During this simple programme, all who gathered at Covid block were seen wearing masks and maintained social distance.
