M’luru Police accuse nine netizens of inciting communal violence

Mangaluru: As many as nine individuals were issued notices by the Mangaluru Police Department for posting inflammatory content on Thursday, January 2. The Twitter and Facebook account holders were charged under section 41 of the Criminal Procedure Code along with sections 144, 124A (sedition) and 505 (false statement) of the Indian Penal Code.

The criminal cases were filed against the accused by cyber-crime police personnel at the Mangaluru North Police Station. All the nine account holders were directed to appear at the station for further investigation on January 5.

Irfan Belthangady, Anis Ahmed, Mohammed Asif Khan, Aneesh Kumbra, Shabir Ahmed, Nissar Ahmed, Altaf, Nizam P A and Ismail A K are the account holders who were issued notices. Speaking to the Hindu, Police Commissioner PS Harsha said that all content posted on social media was being monitored by a separate police unit.
