Mangaluru: MLC Bhoje Gowda visited the Thota Bengre Beach on Saturday, December 1, where a woman was gang raped recently and found the need for a police outpost in the area in order to prevent such incidents in future.

Speaking to reporters at his office in Mallikatte, he said, “The Thota Bengre and Thannirbavi beaches are dark and dangerous and there is a need to develop these areas. There are no proper cement benches in the beach area and it is covered by bush and weed. Proper security personnel must be deployed in the area and erecting a police outpost is the need of the hour”, he said.

Bhoje Gowda admitted that it was a failure on the part of of tourism department which did not develop the beaches properly. The district administration also has failed in taking proper measures to develop the area, he added.

‘Police concerned should be dismissed’

Bhoje Gowda urged the police department to dismiss the police personnel who refused to register the case at Bantwal Town police station when the gang rape victim had been there with a complaint. “Though the police department has already suspended ASI Raghuram Hegde in this connection, the victim has informed that there were two policemen in the station when she had been there. Hence, instead of taking against one police alone, the department should take disciplinary action against both”, he said and added that instead of suspending them, they should be dismissed from the duty.

DK district Janata Dal (S) Youth President Akshith Suvarna and others were present.
