Mangaluru: Mangaluru North MLA Dr. Y Bharath Shetty cautioned of staging a vehement protest if toll was collected from the local vehicles at Suratkal toll plaza.
Though the toll was being collected at Suratkal toll plaza from all vehicles, the contract company had excepted the local vehicles (vehicles with KA-19 registration) following a strong public outcry. But it is now alleged that the contract company has again started collecting toll from the local vehicles. Hence, the public complained to Mangaluru North MLA Dr. Y Bharath Shetty in this regard.
Responding to it, Bharath Shetty demanded that toll should not be collected from the local vehicles on the pretext of incurring loss. “Though the toll plaza is located at Suratkal (National Highway 66) and comes under Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) limits, the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has named it as New Mangalore Port Road. The hidden agenda of this move is only to collect toll from the local vehicles”, Bharath Shetty alleged.
