Mangaluru: Mangaluru South MLA D Vedavyas Kamath kick-started the ‘Dengue Drive Day’ programme at Mannagudda ward and created awareness among the public about the need of clearing stagnant water to prevent the disease, on Sunday, August 4.
While paying visit to the houses, he asked the residents not to allow water to stagnate in their premises and clear water from flower pots, containers frequently so as to ensure no mosquitoes breed in the water. Social activist Suresh Shetty, who has been active in the city on educating people on methods to prevent dengue fever accompanied Kamath during his visit to the houses.
Suresh Shetty demonstrated how dengue larvae breed in freshwater and what precautionary measures should be taken to prevent people from getting infected by dengue fever. He also demonstrated how guppy fish eat larvae of mosquitoes in water.
DK District Health Officer (DHO) M Ramakrishna Rao, Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) Commissioner Mohammed Nazeer, health officer Manjaiah Shetty and BJP leaders Ravishankar Mijar, Raveendra Kumar, Ramesh Kandettu, Premananda Shetty, Bhaskarchandra Shetty, Sudheer Shetty Kannur among others were present.
