Mangaluru: MLA Vedavyas Kamath performed the ‘Bhoomi Puja’ for a Rs 10 lakh-mega drainage system project behind Venkataramana Arcade located at Bhavanthi Street on Wednesday, December 11.

This area comes under the Central Ward of the Mangaluru City Corporation.

Speaking to the media, Kamath said, “The corporator from Central Ward, Poornima had spoken to me about this project a couple of months ago. Now, the construction of the mega drainage system will be implemented near the Sri Raghavendra Swamy Mutt. The two main issues in the city are drinking water and drainage system. If the drainage systems are not managed properly, then we have to face the music during heavy downpours. In required places, the drains will be constructed and in places where they have already been built, measures will be taken to ensure the smooth flow of water. Basic infrastructural facilities will be our top priority.”

“During the drainage system construction and the initiation of other developmental projects, the public might experience inconvenience. I request the people to co-operate and join hands with us to transform the city,” he added.

Corporators Poornima and Diwakar, BJP leaders Vasanth J Poojary, Ramesh Hegde, Soumya, Gopi Bhat and others were present.
