Missing IAF plane: Army personnel from Belthangady on-board?

Belthangady: According to reports, an army officer from Belthangady was on board the Indian Air Force plane carrying 29 people that went missing on Friday on a flight to a remote island in the Bay of Bengal.
Yekanatha Shetty from Guruvayanakere in Belthangady was heading to Port Blair from Chennai along with 28 other officers. Though he had retired from the service, he was re-appointed by Indian army. He had been to his native on vacation a few days back. Shetty along with 28 others left to Port Blair from Chennai for army training at around 8am on Friday. The plane was supposed to land at Port Blair at 11.30am, but went missing from the Bay of Bengal.

It is learnt that Shetty’s wife was informed over phone that her husband too was in the missing plane. The reports are yet to be confirmed.

The Russian-made AN-32 was on its way to Port Blair, the capital of Andaman and Nicobar islands, from Chennai when it disappeared from the radar. There were 21 military personnel on board including six crew members. The other people on board were civilians, some family members of soldiers deployed on the islands.
